KATIKATI RSA- NEWSLETTER 3/11
Hard to believe we
are almost at the end of another year. Already I notice various
organisations are making arrangements for their Xmas functions. There
are still 365 days in a year although it doesn’t seem so.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
We have decided to celebrate this day on Sunday 13th
November,2011 commencing at 1330hrs. The Katikati community Band will
be in attendance to provide entertainment and a light Afternoon Tea will
be served. I look forward to seeing you there.
DISTRICT MEETING
I recently attended the Annual General Meeting of the District held in
Whakatane. As usual a number of items were discussed and the meeting
was attended by the RNZRSA National President, Don McIver. He gave an
insight into several matters that were currently being looked into.
Among them was the
rewrite of the War Pensions Act. The original submission made to
Government was 75 pages and this has been sent back to VANZ in order
that it be condensed.
A remit has been put
to the forthcoming National Conference that the use of Poppy Funds be
extended to include Service members. This remit has been put forward
previously and defeated.
On Monday 26th
September, 2011 we had a visit from the National President and his wife
Margaret. I believe that this may have been the first time a National
President has visited Katikati RSA and we were very grateful that he was
able to take time out from his busy schedule in order to make the
visit. Our District President, Alex Pluck and his wife Jenny
accompanied them. Appropriate photos were taken, some of which are to
be seen on our Website.
My thanks go to
Russell Hayward for his assistance. Our RSA Ladies provided a very
nice Afternoon Tea at short notice.
My thanks are also extended to
them.
One of our Committee
members, John Dent recently resigned. Fortunately Ray Lobb who has
returned to Katikati was willing to fill the vacancy and will also be
our Memorial Hall representative.
This is the final
Newsletter for the year, so that all is left for me to do is to wish you
all the compliments of the season. May you all enjoy the Festive
season and hopefully you are able to spend time with your family.
Regards to you all,
Peter Sparrow -- President, 4th October 2011
